Here is a New Old Stock cast iron water neck sold by OEM of Des Plaines, Illinois back in the 60's or early 70's. Close examination shows some tiny voids in the surface of this casting. It's a thick casting so they have no consequence. The gasket surface is nice and smooth, but has some rust on the edge. Minor surface rust as pictured. Your original may be aluminum.
