1940's - 1960's ??? "volkswagon" ??? Chrome Bumper Guard

This Bumper Guard is in nice overall condition. It is about 10 5/8 inches long, 2 1/8 inches wide and 3 inches deep at the deepest area. I can't find any numbers on it, but it has, what appears, to be a "VW" stamp. I visited with my retired mechanic friend, and he agreed that it appears to be for a volkswagon.
